Wordless–I mean Wordy–Wednesday

Ok, I just can’t give these pictures without some kind of explanation so I’ve changed the title of the post.

The following are pictures from Josiah’s Reformation Day costume(as the good King Josiah) and he was also Obi Wan Kinobi to match his cousins.  In the second picture Josiah looks very uh…not ‘reformationy’ if thats a word. Take it how you want. The last group of pictures of Josiah’s haircut. I’m still getting used to it because I miss the messy tousled (sp) look that matched his lively personality. Sigh…

Ten on Tuesday

1. Josiah is waking up from his nap. I’m going to get all ten in before he is fully awake and yelling for me.

2. I was a baking fool while Josiah napped today. I made a batch of cookies(chocolate chip) for church tonight since I only do desserts, and two–yes two–loaves of bread. Actually, the recipe makes two, but it sounds more impressive that way. The bread smells yummy.

3. For the past 6-8 months or so Dirk and I have been using Tom’s of Maine toothpaste. It takes a little getting used to, but it is so awesome because when you drink or eat anything after brushing your teeth it doesn’t taste bad like it usually would. Even water tastes sweet.

4. I burned my finger while I was baking today so now I am typing with a handicap and since my laptop gets unusually hot, its extra hard to type fast.

5. I am a weirdo about sheets. They have to be tucked in completely on the end of the bed because I hate hate HATE when sheets pull out from the end of the bed. I need about 24 inches tucked in to be sure that this will not happen. If I suspect it is happening, I will get out of bed regardless of the hour to fix it. Dirk thinks this is weird.

6. Trying to think of something else to say…

7. The sermon at our church this week was EXCELLENT. It was addressing the different roles of men and women with particular attention to the the Genesis account. I have to be honest, I was not interested. I don’t have a problem with the complementarian view so I didnt think there was much for me to learn. It was SO good and so informative. I highly recommend you take a listen if you have about 45 minutes to spare.

8. I am so excited I am picking up a Combi double stroller tomorrow!! I picked it up off Craigs List. Woohoo!

9. Josiah got another haircut last week and I’m still getting used to it. He looks so different to me! I’ll say that Mary Kay at Shears ‘n’ Action totally earned her money this time! Josiah was not a happy customer, but she was able to work around his crying and squirming and gave him a quality haircut. I think those pictures will be my Wordless Wednesday post.

10. I took Josiah on a walk yesterday and saw a handmade sign for a lost golden retriever. Then, on my way to my book study, I saw a sign for a found golden retriever! I just called the people looking for their dog to to tell them about the found sign. I hope its the same dog!

UPDATE: On the way back to work from lunch I gave Kathy the phone number to call as she requested and when I came home from work the sign was gone!  I hope that means that the lost dog and found dog were the same.  –Dirk

Whew! I did it!

Tag!

I’m finally going to do the photo tag that Jamie sent out 3 weeks ago:

Go to your picture file on your PC.
Pull up the 4th folder.
Pull up the 4th photo.

Tell us about it.

The date is March 31, 2007. This picture is entitled ‘Dirk’s Annoucement’ by our doula Sharon who took it about 30 minutes after Josiah was born. In the picture is Dirk, who is obviously animated and a little hopped up on adrenaline, relating the birth story to his dad Tony (left) and my brother-in-law Clif (right). I’m pretty sure that my parents might have come to see me and the baby at this point. It was a fabulous experience(you can click on the tab entitled “Josiah’s Birth Story” if you are interested). We’re praying for the same for our next little one.

Ok, I tag…ugh. Just do it. And then comment here so I know you did it.

A Decade!

I’m breaking the silence of my first Wordless Wednesday to share a realization that came to me as I was on my way home from church tonight:

Dirk and I have known each other for more than TEN years!!

That is just crazy to me. In fact, I think it was about this time in the fall semester of 98 that we realized that we were in the same class on MWF at 8am. We didnt know this until we were talking about classes one thursday night after Upstream(the freshman bible study where we met) because I often overslept, and he often slept through class. Its natural that we would have missed each other.

Anyway, I thought that was pretty amazing that I could even remember something that happened ten years ago. A testament to how fast time has gone by without realizing it. It hardly feels so long. 🙂

Ten on Tuesday

1. Josiah learned the hymn Holy, Holy, Holy from his cousin Olivia, and now he walks around singing to himself “ho-wee, ho-wee, ho-wee” Its pretty cute, especially since this is his first attempt to sing anything. That girl could teach him calculus.

2. We visited Dirk’s family this weekend and went to his nephew’s Pinewood Derby at their church. Josiah abolutely LOVED watching the cars race. Garrett even won! Now all the guys are making pinewood cars to race at Christmas. I smell a new tradition brewing…

3. We picked a name for a new little girl: Naomi Jane. We love the story of Ruth and Naomi, and the Jane is from Lady Jane Grey. She is a really interesting historical figure that has many qualities that we hope that Naomi will look to as an example.

4. I made a few minor changes to the set up of our apartment and it looks totally different to me! Its amazing how such small changes can make such a difference. We have so much more room and it feels much more cozy.

5. Anyone ever made the Amish Friendship Bread? Does it turn out ok if you dont ‘mush the bag’ for couple days like you are supposed to?

6. We have decided to have a salsa cookoff with my family this Christmas. I’m so excited about this! I’m thinking something with fruit since we have mastered the pappasito’s version.

7. I am still working on Greek. I am learning verbal roots. This is a completely different teaching style/curriculum than I learned in college. Granted, that was about 8 years ago, but its still blowing my mind.

8. Our book club has decided to read Knowing God by JI Packer. I’m excited because I have started that book several times and never finished it (surprise, surprise)

9. I just heard it migt get into the 30s this weekend! Hooray! I’m really excited about that.

10. I can hear Josiah in his bedroom and it sounds like he is messing with the diapers, so I’d better go see what he is up to…
